There are few watches that live up to their marketing hype, and even fewer that can claim to have genuinely saved lives. Breitling cheap replica watches hasve long been considered the pilot’s watch of choice, but it was the Breitling Emergency that solidified the company’s commitment to aviators and adventurers around the world with one truly unique complication — the personal locator beacon. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, we explore one of the most unique watches ever made.
The story began with Ernest Schneider, the man who acquired Breitling in 1979 when it was on the verge of collapse, and kept it afloat during the quartz crisis, thanks to a new generation of iconic Breitling models. An officer with the Swiss Army signal corps during World War II as well as a passionate pilot and engineer, he was involved in discussions at a NATO strap Breitling watch conference in the mid-1980s about emergency beacons and the high incidence of false activations which cost the relevant authorities significant time and money. It was at these talks that the idea of a watch with a personal locator beacon was born. Following the meeting, Breitling began working with Dassault Electronique to create reliable beacon technology that could be built into a wristwatch and after a decade of development, the Breitling Emergency was announced.
Released in 1995, the Emergency featured a beacon which, when activated, transmitted a signal on the international distress frequency of 121.5MHz (for owners in the military, the microtransmitter was changed to operate on the military distress band). This transmission could be received up-to 167km away and was directional, allowing authorities to locate the beacon with great accuracy. Initially the Emergency was only available to licenced pilots, but eventually the titanium watch was offered to the general public once a document was signed acknowledging their responsibilities in paying for rescue attempts in the event of a false alarm. Some military units even gifted the watches to their pilots as an unofficial insurance policy, with unconfirmed reports that the Emergency complemented official beacon systems and contributed to successful rescue missions. Meanwhile, if the transmitter was utilised during a true emergency situation, Breitling offered to replace the watch at no charge to the owner.
Breitling will mark the 30th anniversary of its Breitling Chronomat series watch UK with an exhibition in Singapore documenting the evolution of its signature timepiece, beginning with its origins as a chronograph made for the Frecce Tricolori.
Breitling was one of the key innovators in creating the modern chronograph – Gaston Breitling invented the two button chronograph in 1934 – but fell on hard times during the quartz crisis. One watch that deserves much credit for reviving Breitling’s fortunes is the Chronomat, becoming one of the most recognisable watches of the nineties. In fact, the Chronomat was arguably one of the pioneering luxury sports chronographs. In 1983 Breitling unveiled the first modern Chronomat, made for the Frecce Tricolori, the aerobatic demonstration team of the Italian air force. Though Breitling had used the name in the past, the modern Chronomat was nothing like its predecessors. It was large and distinctive, with rider tabs on the stainless steel bezel Breitling fake watch that have become a Breitling trademark – setting the template for Breitling’s interpretation of a pilot’s watch. A year later the Chronomat joined the regular collection and it has since gone on to become one of Breitling’s most recognisable watches. Now Breitling will mark 30 years of the Chronomat with an exhibition charting the evolution of the timepiece across the decades. In addition to the Chronomat, the exhibition will also include key timepieces from the current collection, including the Navitimer.
The luminous replica Breitling watches exhibition will take place from August 14 to 18 at the Atrium in Paragon on Orchard Road. Open from 10:30 am to 10:00 pm daily, it is open to the public.
Not the first Breitling cheap replica watches UK model that comes to mind, the Transocean 38 offers an understated style with a twin-aperture calendar at 12 o’clock in an anti-shock, anti-magnetic, 100 metres (330 feet) water-resistant watch.
Above the Breitling logo, a gold B initial is used in place of the 12 o’clock hour marker. while the small seconds sub-dial at 6 o’clock creates a visual counter-balance to the date twin aperture.
The dial is available in black or silver. And for women that like larger watches, Breitling also offers a mother-of-pearl dial (with or without diamond hour-markers) as well as an optional gemset bezel.
The Breitling transocean 38 series watches houses an automatic movement, certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), which beats at 2!,800 vibrations per hour and offers 42 hours of power reserve. The solid caseback bears the historical Breitling symbol with its stylized embossed planes.
The Breitling Transocean 38 is fitted with a steel mesh bracelet in tribute to the original models but it is possible to opt for a perforated bracelet or a leather strap.
